Q: My hearing is shot and my kids want me to get one of those phones, TDD, that writes out the conversation. I’ve seen them on television but I’m afraid I won’t be able to use the technology. I’m 76 and live in California. ALL of my kids and grandkids live in other states, so I need to be able to use the phone – what do you think?
A: I think you would be wise to get the ball rolling for this service today! Since you live in California, go to www.californiaphones.org for a complete explanation of the options avaialable. (Such programs also exist for residents who live outside of California.) If you can talk on a phone, you have all the skills you’ll need for this assistive technology – it’s that easy! Your life will be simplified, family connections maintained, and your independance protected.
