Duck Pond with Fowl Duo

Simplicity

Tracey Tracey's Blog

One of the things I enjoy about being a little (!) older than the masses is how much I appreciate simplicity.

Take ducks for instance. Yes, I said ducks – two of them to be exact, a male and female pair of Mallards. For the third season, these two have returned to our backyard pond for their annual visit. And yes, we are a little giddy with their return. The first sighting is announced with great enthusiasm! There’s something quite pleasant about looking out there and seeing those two silently paddling around, happily feeding on whatever it is ducks eat. (Surely, it is slimy and most probably a terrible shade of brownish green.) She seems to lead the way, he follows at a respectable distance, and both seem entirely comfortable with our presence now. We are allowed to wander down by the pond and their only response is to swim to the far side of the things. Once in awhile Bella – our resident canine – tosses a bark their way. Do they fly off? Hardly. They continue swimming along, as if to acknowledge that they too, are a part of life here at the end of the road.

Yep, it’s pretty simple alright – a couple of ducks, two Boomers, and a dog. I wouldn’t have it any other way!
